A small paper mill in northern New York needed a means to reduce odor from their sludge lagoon. The mill understood that Byo-Gon PX-109 Organic was successful in the past in controlling odor when the lagoon was emptied and dewatered and chose to apply the same product to solve their odor problem.
Byo-Gon PX-109 Organic works to increase facultative microbe activity and uptake the odorous sulfides that cause offensive smells in the surrounding area. The product was injected directly into the sludge, then surface applied with the incoming waste stream. In addition to reports of odor elimination by the neighbors of the paper mill, ORP (oxidation reduction potential) measurements were used to confirm the improved biological conditions. As ORP approaches a positive level the odor generation is reduced. This was also confirmed with reduced dissolved sulfide levels (from 1.0 ppm to 0.0 in short time).
Our customer has repeated this treatment for the past 5 years to responsibly control odor in their system and be a great neighbor in their community.
